How Majestic is Your Name

In reading Psalm 8, verse 1 and 9 have the exact words:

Lord, our Lord,

How majestic is your name in all the earth!

The purpose of the first instance is to come right out and make the statement. The purpose of the second instance is to deliver even greater emphasis to the statement after giving proof throughout the psalm.

Many conclude that this psalm is written soon after David killed Goliath. There is praise, rejoicing, and God’s creation is considered. Then, there is the statement that people were made in the image of God to rule over His creation (vv. 6-8).

The significance of the questions in verse 4 is that the Creator of the universe desires a close relationship with us. It blows the mind to think about the value God gives to each of us; so much so that He sent His Son to die for each of us on the cross.

After reading this Psalm, we should all be set free from any feeling of worthlessness. But with this great value that God places on each of us, there comes a great responsibility. New Technology makes what once was impossible possible but we have a responsibility to use it in a manner that honors God rather than promotes evil.

I remember one time our family went to a Blake Shelton concert. I Woke up in an Austin hotel after the concert on Friday night and was able to read blog posts in my room. I had some coffee in the lobby and came back up to our room to read more. Then we had a great breakfast at Denny’s and drove back on a leisurely drive back home. I was able to keep up with everyone’s post and at the same time enjoy a memorable time with my family.

Sometimes work stacks up and it’s hard to know what to do first. That’s when knowing that with God, everything is possible makes such an impact. He has made people with the ability to innovate and develop new technologies but it is up to us to use this technology in a responsible way.

This day with you Lord, we pray that we make good decisions and are responsible in how we use technology. Help us to make the best decision and that we are able to prioritize our work and gain momentum as each task is completed. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name. You have created all things and give us the ability to manage what You have created. We now have technology so that we can read about thoughts from others thousands of miles away and interact with them on-line. Thank you Lord for this capability. In Jesus name. Amen!
