A plot was executed and Gedaliah who had been appointed governor was assassinated. To cover this up, Ishmael killed over 70 men who came to offer grain offerings and incense to the house of the Lord. Today’s reading underscores the reality that peace is impossible when your circumstances are controlled by other people.

The lesson for me today is that we should organize each day to learn and build momentum. Like building muscle for the physical body, we should have a workout regimen that builds up the soul with Bible reading, study, and application. Today, I’m praying for the desire to walk in God’s ways and the initiative to do what’s necessary to receive the happiness and steadiness that a life with God always offers.
