The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you. – Proverbs 9:10-11
In the post “Loyalty and Devotion”, I wrote about the loyalty of our family pet when I was young and his desire to get back home.
A main point brought out in the post is that that good judgment is often shaped by experience and experience itself can come from the lessons of past mistakes. Fortunately, we don’t have to navigate life blindly—the Bible is filled with the experiences of those who have walked before us, offering wisdom and guidance to help us avoid pitfalls. By setting aside time each day to study God’s word and seek Him in prayer, we can gain the insight needed to make wise decisions. Aligning our priorities with God’s ensures that we are not merely chasing fleeting desires but walking in His purpose, growing in faith and understanding along the way.
We sometimes are lost and desire to get back on track to our eternal home. There’s a deep longing in the heart that nothing on earth can satisfy, a yearning for a place where joy never fades and peace is unshaken. As pointed out in the song Homesick For Heaven by Phil Wickham, this longing becomes a hopeful anticipation—a steady belief in Jesus, the One who bridges the gap between now and eternity. Gratitude wells up for the grace given, the unmerited gift that lifts the soul and anchors it in love. Beyond the struggles and fleeting pleasures of this world, there is a promise of eternal joy and perfect peace in God’s presence, where every tear is wiped away, and every heart finds its true home. Until that day comes, faith carries forward, eyes fixed on the everlasting hope that awaits.
