Verses 1 and 2 set the tone of Psalm 7 by immediately pointing out how David feels in being accused of something he did not do and having no one to turn to except God for help. In verses 3-5, he is willing to accept his punishment if guilty of the slanderous accusations.

Reading in 1 Samuel 24:9-11, David wrote this psalm in response to being accused of trying to kill Saul and seize the throne. He prays for God to rise up against his accusers and make sure justice is carried out. David is mistreated but asked God to deal with it and deliver ultimate justice.

We face many people and situations that go against us daily so it is easy for us to identify with this psalm. There are impossible deadlines to meet, peer pressure, financial crisis, and health situations we face throughout life.

Many people today say that “God is dead”; that the Bible is of no use in today’s world. It’s just an old book with an old philosophy of living that can’t be applied in today’s world. We face terrorist groups and tyrannical governments that murder people who don’t agree with them. Many parts of the world are in a state of despair.

During desperate times, David understood the power of prayer. He understood that prayer was his greatest power because he was speaking to the ONE who had the answers to his problems. God blesses those who seek His advice and who follow through on His guidance.

This day with You Lord, Your Holy Spirit is with us to help solve problems at work, at home, or wherever we are. We are Your hands and feet to take action on the issues before us. Help us to stand up and be doers of Your word. Help us not to just stand still and listen to Your word but do what Your word says. Remain in our heart so we glorify Your Holy name. Amen!
