There was a famine in the land and Isaac thought about leaving and going to Egypt but God tells Isaac to stay and makes a promise that He would be with him and provide for his needs as stated in Genesis 26.  God tells Isaac that He would confirm the oath He swore to his father Abraham; making his descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and giving them all these lands, and through his offspring all nations on earth would be blessed, because Abraham had obeyed and did everything required, keeping God’s commands, His decrees and His instructions (v. 5).

Just like his father, Isaac was afraid the men would kill him for his wife. Rebekah was beautiful and to protect himself, he was deceptive by telling everyone that she was his sister. Another problem Isaac had was that the Philistines envied him because of his wealth and they stopped up his water wells. He then decided to move but everywhere he moved, there was a quarrel over the water wells.

Like his father, Isaac was deceptive because he lacked courage to face his enemies. We too face our enemies of today and we can influence future generations to not repeat our sins. This day with God, let us give the future generation optimism and faith to face the despair and doubt of current times. Let’s offer them the way that brings victory in a time of hate by helping them understand what Jesus has done for us on the cross.
